Good Thing Matt Lauer Didn’t See This!

Went to the beach today. The water was delish temp wise and I was going to go in but there was a pretty strong smell of crude oil. On closer inspection it was obvious that there had been an oil spill and there was oil on a large part of "my" beach plus you could see these ominous dark oil "blobs" in the water. Out in the water there were basketball sized to pillow sized to king sheet sized blobs just under the surface. I thought it was all supposed to float but this stuff was like something black and nasty from a Lava Lamp. In the water at the shore it was pea gravel sized where it had gotten broken up in the waves. On shore it was mostly gravel sized except where it had joined together and looked kind of like little tar pools that were shiny and looked hard but were actually kind of the consistency of really smooth, stiff Guacamole dip (comparison in honor of cinco de Mayo). People were swimming - some right next to the "blobs" where the oil had not reached the beach yet. Don't know if they knew what the blobs were or could see them. I could see them real good with my sunglasses on but not so good without. Water bottles washed up on the beach were covered with oil grime though so I decided I didn't want to go in and risk the clean-up job. Had a nice walk though and got some sun.

If you missed the Today show on Thursday, here’s what Matt had to say about Dubai.

"Matt. Matt, Matt, you don't even — you're glib. You don't even know Dubai."
