Nest-Watchers Annonymous

A nest of great horned owls had hatched on the island just before I got home. They were fuzzy little shy things when I first saw them...


The nest is in this tree at the school board offices. Straight up from our heads about 1/2 way to the top of this photo:

By the time I left, they had real feathers...


...and a take no prisoners attitude.


This local nature guide who "found" the nest actually witnessed the mom feeding a rat to the babies one evening. On this day, she (the mom) was content to just sit in a nearby tree and keep an eye on things.
