Khasab and the Sultanate of Oman

About 2 hours from Dubai, Khasab is the northernmost of the four wilayats on the Mussandam peninsula. This isolated area in Oman is known as the 'fjords of Arabia' from the cliffs that jut into the gulf.

We crossed the border at Tibat (more on that later)...

...and continued along the coast road at the edge of the sea.
...passing the ruins of old forts and watchtowers that guarded the towns and harbors against attack from the sea...
...as the road climbed up the cliff where the views were spectacular.

Pleasure yachts and working dhows cruised the harbor while out on the horizon cargo ships were passing. This peninsula forms the Strait of Hormuz, the strategic passage for the oil trade.

A pleasure outing for us, but all in a days work for this truck driver.
